Before you visit Tucson and Southern Arizona (we call our area the Real Southwest), check out a few regional facts you might need or like to know.

• Arizona is located in the Mountain Standard Time zone (MST). It is one of only two U.S. states that does not adjust for daylight saving time. From March through October, Arizona time mirrors Pacific Daylight Time.
• On all sales except groceries and prescriptions, state and City of Tucson sales tax is 9.1%.
• Tucsonans take a relaxed approach to dress. Summer wear includes lightweight fabrics and sun protection. Indoor air conditioning is chilly for some, so come prepared with a lightweight jacket or sweater. Sunscreen is recommended year-round. In the winter a lightweight coat or jacket will usually suffice, unless you're planning to visit higher mountain areas, where colder temperatures and snow are probable.
• Arizona's state bird is the cactus wren.
• The state flower is the saguaro cactus blossom.
• Turquoise is the state gem.
• The state tree is the palo verde.
